Tucked into the corner of the bay of Messara, is the small seaside resort of Kokkinos Pirgos. This seems a forgotten small resort. In recent times several expensive homes have been built and it seems that this will become a desireable area, but plot prices are still reasonable. The small harbour has been developed and ideal for anyone wanted to keep a boat and the beach area is never crowded. There are several shops for fishermans supplies and some rather good tavernas. The bus trundles through here on its way between Heraklion and Agia Galini. It is only 2kms from Timbaki where all services are available.
