Timbaki
A few words about the village...
Water melons being sold off the back of trucks, bustling traffic, motor bikes doing wheelies down the main road, are some of the fascinating things about Timbaki. Driving through one would find this a rather industrial looking town, but the lovely green town square only a few metres back from the main road has people on it at all hours of the day and night and is a really pleasant place to spend some time. Local and foreign newspapers can be bought here. Timbaki is the central town for many of the small towns in the surrounding area and offers almost all services. It is a large town that has everything to support the inhabitants including several banks, dentists, doctors, pharmacies and of course many shops. It is less than 2kms to the sandy beach at Kokkinos Pirgos with its crystal clear water.. This area enjoys an exceptionally mild climate which is why it is ideal for fruit and vegetable production the main income in the area. Being directly on the route to Heraklion or Rethymnon it is conveniently situated and bus connections are easy and plentiful. Just over 1 hours drive to Heraklion.
